# Our own AI assistant, hosted in Europe

The assistant on this site answers questions from our own pages. It runs on European infrastructure, makes clear that it is AI and hands you to a person when it does not know.

## The question

Can an AI assistant run in Europe and comply with the AI Act?

## What we built

- Answers from the public pages of this site, with the source
- Hosting in Frankfurt and a database in the EU
- Every conversation shows that it is AI, with a page that explains how it works
- Handover to a person, with an answer by email
- A model that can be switched without rebuilding
- A fixed test set that has to pass before a new version goes live

## Try it yourself

The assistant sits at the bottom right of every page. When it does not know something, it says so and offers you a person. Conversations are deleted automatically after a fixed period. ## Why this is a case

We advise organisations to keep AI in Europe, so we do the same. Here we answered for ourselves the questions we ask clients about hosting, access, retention and transparency.

## How it went

1. Step 1 · The question and the limits · What the assistant must be able to do, and above all what it must not do.
2. Step 2 · Prototype · Tested with real questions from visitors.
3. Step 3 · Compliance in the design · Where the data lives, who can access it, how long we keep it and how a visitor knows they are talking to AI.
4. Step 4 · Live · With a spending cap, a limit on the number of requests and a log of what goes wrong.
5. Step 5 · Every new version · First the test set, then live.
