# From WooCommerce to a platform of its own, automated step by step

IC Commerce wanted to grow without the manual work growing with it. We replaced the WooCommerce shop with a platform of its own and automated the work around it step by step, each step running alongside the existing work first.

Plan a start sprint

## The question

How do we grow without the manual work growing too?

## What we built

- A platform of its own in place of the WooCommerce shop
- An AI media pipeline for product images
- Products shown by stock location: customers first see products from the nearest stock location
- Smart suggestions: what is already in the shopping cart decides which stock location the shop shows the next products from
- Every automated step can be checked and corrected by a staff member

## Step by step

IC Commerce wanted to handle more products and more customers without a matching number of extra people. First came a platform of its own in place of the WooCommerce shop. Then we went through the work around it, from product data to customer contact, and automated the steps one by one, starting with the one that delivered the most.

Whatever the system is unsure about, it puts to a staff member. That way every automated step can be checked and corrected.

## How it went

1. Step 1 · Walking through the process · From product data to customer contact: which tasks come up every day.
2. Step 2 · Choosing the first step · The step where automation delivered the most.
3. Step 3 · Building alongside the manual work · A staff member checked the results until the step could take over the manual work.
4. Step 4 · The next step · Then the same round for the next step.
